About

WHAT:
44 Trails Association is a mountain bike-oriented 501(c)3 non-profit community service corporation staffed entirely by volunteers that works in cooperation with the US Forest Service (USFS). All of our work is financed by fundraising events, donations, volunteer hours and a cost share agreement with the USFS.

Our trail system is a network of multi-use, non-motorized trails located on the east side of the Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon. Trails are accessed primarily from Forest Service Road 44 (our namesake) and the Highway 35 corridor near Parkdale, Oregon.

The trail system features singletrack trails that range from well-signed and maintained “frontcountry” trails to more primitive and remote “backcountry” trails. The more backcountry trails see less maintenance,  require more advanced navigation skills and self-reliance. Our entire network provides a natural forest experience and is maintained for biking, hiking and equestrian use.

WHY:
Access to outdoor recreation adds to the quality of life for local residents, helps strengthen the local economy and improves the physical and emotional health of all users. Outdoor recreation benefits all users regardless of economic, social or physical barriers. 44 Trails recognizes what outdoor recreation, especially mountain biking, adds to our local community and we want to help empower the experience for others.

OUR VISION:
44 Trails strives to provide a world class mountain biking experience on our multi-use trail network for an ever increasing and diversifying user group. We accomplish this through stewardship, advocacy, collaboration, education and community support.

OUR MISSION:
44Trails maintains, plans and builds non-motorized, multi-use trails within the Mt. Hood National Forest. We work to maintain and improve the existing trail network as well as advocate for and build new trails to create a thoughtful and cohesive recreation network. 44 Trails members work closely with federal, state and local government agencies as well as numerous other volunteer organizations.
